Botswana's swimming Okavango Lions
10-11-2005
Some guests were recently treated to lions swimming across a channel near Eagle Island Camp. Herewith the guests' story.
Ever wondered just how the lions of the Okavango manage to negotiate the mass of waterways within this Jewel of the Kalahari? Well after several years living within the pristine paradise, numerous discussions and possibly some speculation I was finally lucky enough to witness "doggy paddle", feline style.
Step 1: Jump in without hesitation, neither finding a shallow crossing or even worrying about ever-opportunistic crocodiles.
Step 2: Express notable distaste with a glance and almost "hippo" like snort at the unidentified object nearby being used by strange two legged creatures to study your every move.
Step 3: Get out very much, cool and refreshed ready to slink of into the next islands vegetation in search of your next bite to eat.
